Thank you!
excited to finally publish val town investor updates!
if you care about val town (or me), would love your thoughts on our direction :)
blog.val.town/2026-feb uh oh
a healthy sunscreen culture is another plus, I learned last week (apply before sunny walks to lunch)
"biggest draws" was a completely accidental pun
the doodling culture has to be one of the biggest draws to working at @val.town
(hiring a product engineer if anyone is looking! val.town/careers) nope, no shell history shared even with a Y! any possible data sharing in the future will be 1. strictly opt-in, similar to Claude's yes/no/always 2. configurable to an even finer detail in config writing something up now to make this clear, users always have control over their data
it was a busy morning for my micron pens
@val.town public investor update is out blog.val.town/2026-feb hell yeah 🤘 Lmk if there’s any way we can make it better!
thanks! updated

blog.gitbutler.com/git-ux-rant AI Terminology #20: Distillation
↳ A training technique where a smaller “student” model learns to replicate the behavior of a larger “teacher” model, preserving performance while reducing size and cost. Additionally, and I know it's a bigger change, but bash kinda sucks for us. pre-exec is... fine. There are a number of smaller bugs with it that we can't really fix, as preexec is just a hack to get shell hooks into bash. If at ALL possible, switching to any other shell is a much better experience
ok sounds good!
firstly, I'd get updated to the latest 18.13! then follow the steps here
forum.atuin.sh/t/fzf-output...
to remove pretty much all disk reads from the hot path. it'll feel much snappier. we see most queries/operations occurring in <10ms, and usually more like 5ms. also if you're using zfs on your homedir it's a known issue with sqlite + zfs, fixed either by using the daemon, orrrr by updating to the latest zfs release
it should not be!! sorry about that. could ya tell me a bit more about 1. your system 2. the version you're running 3. if you have tried the new daemon? (run atuin setup, say yes to the daemon). it should be MUCH faster + better
