.meow from @dotmeow.org - a TLD for the queer community
I wrote about the .meow story yesterday in @wired.com
www.wired.com/story/icann-... and 21 IDNs (International Domain Names, i.e. in non-Latin scripts) on the list I personally cannot read all but one of these, but I will copy-paste: 在线 海尔 株式会社 地址 商标 中文网 番茄 购物 人工智能 红果 餐厅 网络 品牌 品牌 官网 官网 官网 瑞幸 抖音 québec 海信
there are 16 strings from Community applicants listed on ICANN's spreadsheet .ada, .agent, .aio, .anime, .ape, .avax, .avocat, .bitcoin, .chess, .indigenous, .manga, .mask, .mcp, .sol, .src, .sui
ok here's the SNL sketch
.fart there is actually an applicant (Endpoint Domains, Inc.) who paid $227k for .fart as a primary string! it references an old SNL sketch with Chris Parnell they also applied for .big, .ftw, .happy, .nsfw, .private, and .punk, among others
.jazz there are many cozy strings out there (joining existing ones like .garden) - and only one jazzy applicant
.human 6 applicants - not as many as the 12 for .agent, but hey 2:1 agent:human ratio not bad
.bbq & .gym in a world where gTLDs succeed, your local barbecue joint will be something.bbq and your gym will be something.gym (2 applicants for .bbq and 5 for .gym)
.btw a good string, and only one applicant! joins existing TLDs like .fyi, .info, and .how great for mini infosites
also plenty of crypto ones .btc, .bitcoin, .coin, .chain, .crypto, .block, .base
seeing lots of ai-related strings (unsurprisingly) .agent, .agentic, .agnt, .agi, .asi, .llm, .prompt, .model, and many more
OpenAI's 15 are: .agent, .agi, .asi, .chatgpt, .codex, .daybreak, .deploy, .evals, .gpt, .mcp, .model, .oai, .openai, .skill, .voice
Meta's 18 includes: .agent, .aiglasses, .facebook, .insta, .instagram, .llama, .messenger, .meta, .metaverse, .superintelligence, .threads, .whatsapp
Google's 39 includes: .agent, .alphabet, .api, .ask, .browser, .gemini, .intelligence, .maps, .sheets, .slides, .teach, .waymo, .waze
.superintelligence one of if not the longest string - there's also .bankofamerica, .newbalance, .metaglasses, .metaverse, .corporation, .organization, .ralphlauren, .registeredagent, .stradivarius
And speaking of XYZ, looks like they applied for the second most strings, including: .bro, .agent, .beach, .chef, .crypto, .scam, .sus, .street, .omg, .king, .lake, .more, .zzz, and some raunchy ones like .ass
Speaking of LFG, looks like they applied for the most strings - 158 primary strings, which costs ~$36 million in application fees alone .agi, .api, .bad, .big, .any, .all, .btc, .internet, .llm, .boom, .factory, .good, .god, .learn, .luck, .pod, .merch, .robot, .yes, .url, and of course, .lfg
.api could be a bidding war - 10 applicants including Google, LFG, and XYZ (of .xyz fame, plus 34 other existing TLDs)
.taylorswift huh! the applicant is "TAS Rights Management, LLC" - is that Taylor? will swifties get fan domains like ilove.taylorswift or somesuch?
333 branded strings like .airbnb, .adidas, .adobe, .anthropic, .claude, .openai, .chatgpt, .bsky (oh hey! @bsky.app), .cloudflare, .converse, .meta, .facebook, .instagram, .ihop, .mazda, .mychart, .newbalance, .palantir, .notion, .ralphlauren, .salesforce, .shopify, .slack, .stripe, .vercel, ... 7 applicants for .agi - OpenAI is one of them
12 applicants for .agent including OpenAI and Meta
There's also the Community applicant agentcommunity.org Google applied for 39 Meta applied for 18 OpenAI applied for 15 Squarespace applied for 15 Amazon applied for 8 Anthropic applied for 2 Microsoft applied for 2
